Indian Pickleball Teams Gear Up for 2024 World Cup in Peru with New Partnership

In a thrilling development for pickleball enthusiasts in India, the Indian Pickleball Association (IPA) has announced a strategic partnership with Pickleball World Rankings (PWR). Together, they are setting the stage for two Indian teams to make their mark at the Pickleball World Cup 2024 in Lima, Peru, scheduled from October 22 to 27.
The selection of these teams was no small feat, as eager contenders from across the nation congregated in Ahmedabad for the crucial trials. These trials were meticulously organized by both the IPA and the Gujarat State Pickleball Association (GSPA). In the end, nine exceptional players emerged triumphant.
Leading the charge for the Open Category team is captain Dhiren Patel, joined by a stellar lineup including Himansh Mehta, Suraj Desai, Rakshika Ravi, and Anshi Sheth. The Seniors 50+ team, no less formidable, features the seasoned players Nozer Amalsdiwala, Kiran Salian, Bela Kotwani, and Sujay Parekh. These players bring a wealth of experience and skill, ready to represent India on this grand international stage.
Pranav Kohli, the brain behind the Pickleball World Rankings, radiates confidence in the abilities of the Indian teams. He remarked, "I am confident these players will make us proud and return with the Cup." Adding to the praise, IPA President Suryaveer Singh Bhullar expressed the immense trust placed in these athletes to bring glory to their homeland.
This collaboration goes beyond just the World Cup. It marks a pivotal moment in India's pickleball journey, as the sport gains momentum both locally and internationally. Part of this initiative includes the launch of the PWR DUPR Indian Tour & League, slated to kick off in New Delhi from October 24 to 27. The tournament promises to be a spectacle of talent and competition, further elevating the sport's profile in the country.
Adding a touch of flair to the series is none other than former tennis icon, Andre Agassi. While his presence is set for January 2025, it already generates buzz and excitement for what's to come. Such high-profile involvement is indicative of the sport’s growing appeal.
The whole setup isn’t just about winning on the court; it represents a larger movement to increase participation and viewership for pickleball in India. This partnership between IPA and PWR is poised to foster a thriving pickleball community that's eager to take on the world, starting with Lima, come October.
